Why is the SZTORI TIME course different from other courses?

In a traditional course you encounter 30 new words and new grammar structures every class. The things “you should already know” are piling. You never have enough time to actually use what you learned, and most of the time it's not even useful for your life.

This course prioritises language skills over language facts. The stories and topics I prepared for you will make you want to understand more and more and they’ll make you want to share your stories and opinions. I’m not going to assign you what words to learn. I encourage you to take away what’s useful for you and relevant for your life. I don’t want you to be dependent on teacher’s instructions for ever. I’d like to guide you with the right questions to find what works for you for learning Hungarian. Building a routine is definitely not easy but it’s much easier with a supporting community where everyone else is in the same shoes. This course will give you the right amount of material along with the support that'll keep you going. I don’t want to waste your time in class for things you could have done at home too. I want to show you how to get by on your own.

Have you ever felt...

What if...

  • there was a sustainable and enjoyable way to study Hungarian?

  • you weren't alone in this, you had a guide and a supportive community behind you?

  • it was much simpler than you thought?

I've been there!

I’ve probably tried everything you did. Trying to find the right textbook, taking private lessons, jotting down grammar tables, memorizing flashcards, joining courses. While I was a student studying English, Polish and Russian I didn’t even question these methods. I was convinced it was normal to feel like learning languages was a constant struggle. When I started to learn Spanish because of my Mexican husband, I slowly started to let go of old-fashioned methods because they didn’t serve my goal. My father-in-law will never ask me what colour is my T-shirt and my sister-in-law will never ask me if I can conjugate a verb in all tenses. I didn’t want to overload my brain with a ton of information I can’t even use. I needed something real, natural and authentic. That's when I turned to storytelling and comprehensible input.

Join the SZTORI TIME course

Let go of the old-fashioned methods if they don't serve you. There's a reason why you're here still looking for a solution - because those methods don't seem to work for you. This ten-week audio course will help you build a sustainable routine for studying Hungarian, it will provide you with enjoyable material, and its reward system will keep you motivated.

You will love this course if...

  • you want to build a sustainable routine for learning Hungarian

  • you want to use authentic and exciting material

  • you want to expand your vocabulary

  • you could use a little more motivation

  • you want to learn colloquial expressions and everyday cultural fun facts

The course is based on the concept of Comprehensible input

The concept comes from American linguist, Dr. Stephen Krashen. It is language input that can be understood by learners even when they don’t understand all the words and structures in a given text, or audio.

I'm sure, most of us language learners thought at some point that the key to fluency is practicing grammar and speaking. A lot of people who feel stuck and don't see progress only practice these two skills and lack listening practice. However, that is exactly how you're going to move forward - if you listen to something at your level, about something interesting for you, more times a week. Your vocabulary will expand not by memorising flashcards but by hearing the same words in context over and over again. If you practice speaking without sufficient input, chances are higher for acquiring bad pronunciation. And why would you start with learning grammar tables when you don't even know what you want to use it for? Even Lomb Kató, Hungarian polyglot and interpreter said: "One learns grammar from language, NOT language from grammar."

Why is listening practice good for you?

  • It is the most effective way for learning vocabulary

  • It improves your pronunciation

  • Hearing the same correct grammar structures will help you learn grammar without memorizing grammar tables

  • It'll improve your speaking skills - without realizing you'll start using new words you heard over and over again in conversations

  • Listening to something designed for your level will make you feel accomplished and it'll keep you motivated

This course will make you fall in love with practicing listening

You will understand everything even if you don't understand every single word. You can listen while walking, cleaning, working out, driving. You don't have to sit by your desk and highlight every new word in the transcription. Just by listening every day and hearing the same words in context will drastically improve your vocabulary and trust me, that's exactly how your speaking will improve too.

Don't miss out!

This course won't open again this year. The places are limited. If you are always procrastinating, this is your sign to start learning Hungarian now!

Students said

“I took a 5-6 year long break from learning Hungarian. I call Sziszi my little fairy, because she enchanted me and she got me to return to studying Hungarian.”

Hélène

“I like the monthly video meetings best. I feel like I'm at a party, it's always a great atmosphere, we have a good laugh, but we also learn and practice. It's a miracle that people from all over the world can talk in Hungarian about fun and serious topics.”

Vlasta

“The topics of the podcasts vary and are always fun. Sziszi always finds interesting topics. The podcast accompanies my learning every week and without realizing it, I've again picked up a few new words that I can use in the next conversation with my Hungarian relatives. ”

Janin

I got my master's degree in teaching Hungarian as a second language

That's why I know exactly how to talk to you at your level. But I promise it'll be nothing like those typical boring text book audios. You'll feel like a Hungarian friend is talking to you. You'll feel related to the stories I'll tell you in the course. They'll make you smile, laugh, think, nod, raise your eyebrows. You'll feel the urge to share what you think immediately with me and other learners and that's the whole point. To connect through the Hungarian language. I did my teaching practice at a university, I taught at language schools, I gave regular private lessons and group lessons and I saw the same problems everywhere students were struggling with. The educational system always forgot we were actual people. Human beings with feelings, different needs, different interests. I'm here to take you out of that box you were put into. I'm here to help you find a way that works for you.

Hungarian learners said about my method

“Sziszi speaks at a natural, conversational speed that is still understandable for the magyar nyelv student. Her stories are funny and interesting and her process of mastering the English language and Spanish language in the United States are relatable. ”

Podcast listener

“I love listening because it's like chatting with a friend. I understand everything.”

Podcast listener

“I started learning Hungarian exactly a year ago. I never believed I'll be able to communicate in Hungarian so fast. That's how good your material is! I wanted to thank you for your effort, time and creativity but especially for being such an inspiring and supportive person!”

Efrat

“I listen to your podcast every day and it always makes me happy because it's very interesting and pleasant to listen to.”

Luca Lampariello language coach and polyglot said

about my method and content

"The thing that struck me the most about the content that Sziszi produces and creates is the fact that the language is very natural, but at the same time it's perfect for learners. And when I listen to her podcast or watch her videos, I got the impression that a friend is talking to me. She's telling me stuff about her life, about Budapest, about Hungary, about her struggles as a learner. So for me that has really made a difference because I started watching and listening to every single podcast and every single video that Sziszi has produced. And as a consequence of that, my vocabulary has improved, my listening comprehension has improved. Right now I'm able to enjoy more complex videos, for example, on Youtube and also watch the news. So it has really made a huge impact on my learning. "
